The Autism Project is located at 9439 Old Solomons Island Rd. in Owings, Maryland. It is situated on almost 2 acres in Northern Calvert County. We are a 1/2 mile from the Anne Arundel County line, making us accessible to Calvert, Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. The property is adjacent to a neighborhood which allows our students to take walks and ride bikes in a safe, quiet setting.

The main facility is a 1,700 square foot house specifically furnished and decorated for students with autism spectrum disorders. Within the house there is a playroom, a language room for circle time and meet & greet opportunities, a learning room, a sensory motor room, a calming room, an exercise room, and a kitchen for snacks.

In addition there is a clubhouse for middle school, high school, and young adult students. The 2,400 square foot facility is designed for fun and games with friends, with a comfortable lounge area for 'hanging out' and equipment to promote social interaction, including: a pool table, air hockey table, pinball machine, ping pong table, foosball table, darts, an Xbox 360 and a Wii.

Independent Living Home

The one-story home, located in North Beach, fulfills a major objective for The Autism Project Inc. (TAP), an Owings-based nonprofit whose mission includes empowering individuals on the Autism Spectrum.

According to TAP Director Angel Gaither-Parker, opening a group home for young adults on the Autism Spectrum was been a goal of the agency for several years.

Momentum for the group home project started to build about three years ago. One of the first steps was identifying a location for the house.

“We chose North Beach because of its access to community resources,” said Gaither-Parker, who explained all three residents are in their late 20s and employed at area businesses, including Chesapeake Grille and Traders Restaurant.
